On August 22, 2012 at about 9:40am, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash on Mendenhall Loop Road near Mall Road. An officer responded and met with the driver of a 2012 Honda Civic that sustained approximately $3,000 in damage. Additional officers searched the area for driver who fled.
About 18 minutes later, the suspect vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer with approximately $1,000 damage, was located parked and unoccupied at a residence on Stephen Richards Memorial Drive. Through continued investigation, the driver was determined to be 22 year old Juneau resident Purnell Mitchell. Mitchell was cited for negligent driving, driving without a valid license, and failing to give immediate notice of an accident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
