On 08/14/2012, at approximately 1:20 PM, the Juneau Police Department received multiple 911 calls reference a collision on Egan Drive outbound near Harris Harbor between a car and motorcycle. Captial City Fire Rescue personnel and JPD officers responded.
The investigation revealed that a 2001 Honda motorcycle was driving on Egan Drive outbound past Harris Harbor. At the same time, a 2001 Subaru was turning left from Egan Drive inbound on W 12th Street. A witness reported that the motorcycle slowed down temporarily and then sped up suddenly in an attempt to pass the Subaru. The motorcycle ended up striking the front passenger side fender of the Subaru.
The motorcycle operator was ejected off the motorcycle. CCFR paramedics declare the motorcycle operator as deceased. The motorcycle operator was identified as 27 year old Juneau resident Larry Brandon BLATNICK Jr. Next of kin has been notified.
The operator of the Subaru was identified as 41 year old Juneau resident Laura HOSEY. HOSEY was not injured during the collision and she displayed no signs of intoxication.
Egan Drive was shut down between W 10th and Highland Drive for approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes.
The investigation is continuing.
