Three people have been charged in the June 20, 2012 arson and vandalism at the Adair Kennedy Football Field that, among other damages, burned equipment and supplies needed for laying turf at the site. The investigation was conducted by Capital City Fire and Rescue fire marshals and detectives of the Juneau Police Department. Investigators benefited from video surveillance of the area which includes cameras that back up footage to a remote location.
24 year old Dillon WEST, of Juneau, is charged with Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Furnishing Alcohol to Persons Under 21, all A misdemeanors.
23 year old Ryan MARTIN, also of Juneau, is charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a C felony. MARTIN is also charged with Criminal Trespass in the First Degree and Furnishing Alcoholic Beverages to Persons Under 21, both A misdemeanors.
18 year old Ashley JOHNSTON, of Juneau, is charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a C felony. She is also charged with Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, and Possession or Consumption by Persons Under 21, both B misdemeanors.
All three individual will be arraigned on July 26, 2012.
City and Borough of Juneau Parks and Recreation staff have informed JPD that the arson delayed completion of the turf laying project for more than two weeks and delayed other turf projects in the Lower 48. These impacts stemmed from the specialized nature of the equipment burned and its scarcity.
Alcohol was involved and no particular motive was found.
