INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Criminal Mischief
Date: 2012-07-16
From: Cindee Brown-Mills
Case or Incident: #120715-004
Summary:

On 7-15-2012 at about 1:00 AM, the Juneau Police Department recieved several calls reporting rocks being thrown at vehicles in the area of Stephen Richards Drive and Mendenhall Loop Road. Officers responding to the location contacted two juvenile boys and one 18 year-old man hiding in the bushes, one of whom had rocks in his hands. They were questioned and released to parents.

It was later discovered one of the rocks had smashed through the rear window of a vehicle. The rock and/or debris stuck a 6 year-old boy riding in the back seat, causing a severe laceration to his cheek. The boy's mother stopped the vehicle and called 911. CCF/R reponded and transported him to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment.

Officers consulted the District Attorney's office and are recommending charges against the three for Assault, Criminal Mischief, False Information to Law Enforcement, and Minor Consuming.

This case is still being investigated by the Juneau Police Department.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
