The Juneau Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind Juneau residents and visitors about safety issues concerning the 3rd and 4th of July. Due to increased pedestrian and vehicular activity the Juneau Police Department staffs extra officers during these two days. On the night of July 3rd there will be approximately 17 JPD officers working. On the day of July 4th there will be approximately 32 officers working, as well as 5 community services officers and 4 Juneau Citizens on Patrol.
Pedestrians are advised to wear bright colored clothing and watch for motor vehicles. At night pedestrians are advised to carry a light.
Vehicle drivers are advised to watch for the increased pedestrian activities. For the Juneau and Douglas parades multiple roads will be blocked and parking will be limited. Motorists are advised to obey all traffic devices.
Salable fireworks are legal and JPD will only investigate incident were fireworks are used in an unsafe manner. Dangerous and homemade fireworks are prohibited.
The City and Borough of Juneau?s Open Container Law is still in effect. Therefore, alcohol consumption in public is not allowed.
During the Juneau and Douglas parades, participants are reminded to not throw candy to spectators. Having children enter the roadway to retrieve candy is unsafe. Participants that wish to give out candy, or other items, are encouraged to hand the items out directly.
The Juneau Police Department hopes that everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
