Case or Incident: #N/A
The Juneau Police Department (JPD) is proud to announce that a JPD officer has attained the rank of Master Police Officer (MPO). A MPO program is common in many police departments but was not part of JPD until 2009. The program is for police officers who have at least eight years experience and have not promoted yet or may not want to promote to sergeant. The program is designed to recognize those senior officers who pursue professional excellence in work assignments, pursue educational opportunities, are physically fit, and are involved in the community. Detective Krag Campbell is the first JPD officer to earn the rank of Master Police Officer.
One of the activities that helped Detective Campbell earn the MPO designation is he is a member of JPD?s SWAT team. He is the lead instructor for arrest control tactics and less lethal force. Detective Campbell is currently assigned to the investigations unit specializing in property crimes where he has linked and solved series of crimes. Detective Campbell coaches youth baseball, football and wrestling. He supports the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, and has competed in the JPD triathlon overcoming an aversion to swimming. Detective Campbell is also part of the JPD Honor Guard, which will be appearing in the 4th of July parade this Wednesday. Please offer Detective Campbell your congratulations when you see him over the holiday.
Detective Campbell will have to continue in similar activities to maintain his MPO rank, which does come with a small stipend. The MPO designation involves a re-application each year. JPD would like to thank Detective Campbell?s wife and children for their support for Detective Campbell?s assignment, ancillary duties, and community activities.
