On Saturday, 06/23/2012, at approximately 1641 hours, the Juneau Police Department received several 911 calls reference a jet ski vs inner tube collision on Auke Lake with injuries. JPD officers and CCFR personnel responded to the lake.
The investigation revealed that an inner tube being towed by a jet ski struck another jet ski on the water. Two 16 year old female Juneau residents were riding on the inner tube. The driver of the jet ski towing the inner tube was identified as a 20 year old male Juneau resident. The driver of the jet ski that was struck by the inner tube was identified as a 19 year old male Juneau resident.
Both teenage girls were injured in the collision. The two teenage girls were taken to shore by a boat and ultimately transported to BRH by ambulance personnel. One of the 16 year old girls was medivaced to Harborview Medical Center due to a severe head injury. The other 16 year old girl was treated at BRH for a bump on her head and released.
The location of the collision occurred somewhere in the middle of Auke Lake. The exact location is still under investigation.
Alcohol was not a contributing factor in this collision.
On 06/25/2012, the Juneau Police Department was in notified that the 16 year old female medivaced to Harborview Medical Center had been declared deceased at 0845 hours, Seattle time. Next of kin has been notified.
The incident is still under investigation.
