INFORMATION RELEASE
Date: 2012-05-25
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #PSA
For the Memorial Day Weekend the Juneau Police Department will be participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign. The dates of the campaign are May 20, 2012 through June 3, 2012. During this time additional JPD officers will be on the road looking for drivers and passengers in vehicles who are not wearing their seatbelts.
The City and Borough of Juneau Municipal Code imposes a fine of $35, with an additional $10 surcharge, to seatbelt violators. If cited under the State Code, violators could face a fine of $50, with an additional $10 surcharge.
To avoid being stopped and cited the Juneau Police Department strongly encouraged occupants of moving vehicles to comply with the seat belt law. In addition to not being stopped and cited, wearing a seat belt might just safe your life.
All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
