On May 20, 2012 at 5:20pm the Juneau Police Department received a report of a two vehicle crash on Douglas Highway near John Street. Officers responded and investigated. It was determined that both vehicles were driving Southbound on Douglas Highway when the 27 year old driver of a 2004 Mazda stopped to make a left turn. The Mazda was struck from behind by a 42 year old woman driving a 2007 Honda CRV. The Honda sustained approximately $6,000 in damage and the Mazda was estimated to be a total loss. A passenger in the Mazda was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was cited for careless driving. The Southbound lane of Douglas Highway was closed for 45 minutes while the crash was investigated.
