INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Weapons Misconduct
Date: 2012-05-17
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #120517-003
Summary:

On 05/17/2012, at approximately 0147 hours, the Juneau Police Department received three separate 911 calls from Slate Drive reporting hearing gunshots in the area. The callers also reported someone shouting about money.

A blue pickup truck was reported as leaving the area of Slate Drive. JPD officers located the blue pickup truck and performed a traffic stop. The occupants were identified as a 54 year old male Juneau resident and a 31 year old female Juneau resident. It was determined that the occupants of the blue pickup were witnesses to the shooting. The suspect was reported as driving in a gold station wagon.

At approximately 0212 hours, JPD officers located a gold station wagon driving on Egan Drive inbound near Channel Vista. The gold station wagon was driving at approximately 70 miles per hour. The gold station wagon was stopped by officers in the parking lot of the Marine Tech Center across from the Juneau Douglas High School. The gold station wagon was occupied by three Juneau residents who were identified as a 26 year old male, a 27 year old female, and 29 old Jack Joseph PAINE Jr.

The investigation revealed that an argument over money occurred near the 4000 block of Slate Drive. PAINE Jr. purportedly fired three rounds from a 9mm semi automatic pistol. No one was hurt during the incident.

PAINE Jr. was arrested for Misconduct Involving Weapons 3rd Degree, two counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree, and Interfering with a Police Officer. PAINE Jr. was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on no bail.

Investigation continues.
