INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: DUI and Failure to Stop for Police Officer
Date: 2012-05-08
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #120508-004
Summary:

On 05/08/2012, at approximately 1057 hours, a Juneau Police Officer was driving his marked patrol car on Egan Drive outbound near the McNugget intersection. A 1991 Chevy truck traveling in the same direction made an illegal lane change and almost struck the patrol car. The officer got behind the vehicle to perform a traffic stop. The Chevy truck failed to stop at the direction of the officer and ran through the red light at Egan Drive and Mendenhall Loop Road. The vehicle turned onto Riverside Drive and ran a red light at the Mall Road intersection. The Chevy truck accelerated to a high rate of speed and the officer stopped following the vehicle.

At approximately 1102 hours, another JPD officer saw the same Chevy truck fail to stop for a red light when crossing Mendenhall Loop Road, from Mendenhall Blvd onto Valley Blvd. The vehicle continued to fail to stop for officers and in the process struck a marked patrol car, causing minor damage.

The Chevy truck crossed back onto Mendenhall Blvd and turned onto Aspen Avenue. At the intersection of Aspen Avenue and Portage Blvd, at approximately 1105 hours, the driver lost control of the truck and struck a tree. The truck was totaled in the crash.

The driver was contacted and identified as 26 year old Juneau resident Devin MOORHOUSE. MOORHOUSE was intoxicated and complaining of pain due to the crash. MOORHOUSE was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation.

Also in the truck was a passenger, identified as a 33 year old Juneau female resident. The passenger complained of pain and was evaluated by ambulance personnel.

After being treated at BRH, MOORHOUSE was arrested and transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. MOORHOUSE was charged with 2 counts of Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer 1st Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree, Driving While Intoxicated, and Driving While License Revoked.
