INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Single Vehicle Crash
Date: 2012-04-19
From: Lt Dave Campbell
Case or Incident: #120419-003
Summary:

On 04/19/2012, at approximately 7:18 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle crash near 23 mile Glacier Highway. Juneau police officers and personnel from Capital City Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded.

The investigation revealed that 34 year old Juneau resident Nicholas LONG was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer inbound at a high rate of speed. There were no passengers in the vehicle. LONG lost control of the vehicle, drove off the right side of the roadway, over corrected and drove across the road into oncoming traffic, drove off the opposite side of the roadway and the vehicle began to roll along the ditch. LONG was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by CCFR personnel. LONG was conscious and transported to BRH for treatment of injuries. The extent of his injuries is not currently known.

Glacier Highway near 23 miles was shut down to vehicular traffic for approximately 45 minutes.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
