On April 14, 2012 at about 2:12 am, a woman reported to a Juneau Police Department Officer that she heard a single gun shot in the area of Franklin Street near Second Street. Seconds after the report, officers contacted 21 year old Juneau resident Caleb Smith walking on Franklin Street carrying two rifles and a pistol. Investigation revealed that Smith was under the influence of alcohol and inadvertently discharged a 12 gage shotgun into the air while attempting to unload it. Smith was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
