Case or Incident: #120306-003
On March 6, 2012 at about 0745 hours, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle roll over accident on Glacier Highway at Blackerby Street. Juneau Police and Capital City Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to the scene.
Officers found a 1997 blue GMC overturned on the bike path. Investigation revealed that the 61 year old female operator lost control due to slippery road conditions on Glacier Highway, left the roadway, and went over the embankment rolling onto the bike path. The operator was pinned in the vehicle but was ultimately extricated by CCFR. The woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was released. The vehicle sustained about $5000 damage.
No charges were filed in this incident. The Juneau Police Department would like to encourage drivers to drive with caution when encountering snowy icy conditions. During the latter part of winter the weather can be deceptive and driving with care will help to avoid accidents.
All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
