On 02-25-2012 at 2:23 PM, Juneau Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident on Egan Drive near the Highland Drive intersection. Upon arrival, officers found a 2003 Jeep Cherokee which had lost control as it traveled outbound on Egan, left the roadway, and struck a street sign and a light pole in front of the Juneau-Douglas High School. The vehicle then traveled back onto the roadway, coming to rest in the left-hand lane of Egan Drive outbound. There was extensive damage to the Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep, a 26 year-old local male, was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A passenger sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The investigation into this case is continuing. Both excessive speed and alcohol appeared to factors in this accident.
