On 02/11/2012, at approximately 2:20 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report that a teacher had caught four juvenile females vandalizing the Mendenhall River School. A JPD officer responded and contacted the teacher and four females. Two of the females were 11 years old, one was 10 years old, and one was 9 years old. The parents of all four girls were contacted and responded to the school.
The investigation revealed that the four girls broke out 7 windows to 7 classrooms. Once access was gained to the classrooms, the girls destroyed more property inside the school. The damage to the school was estimated to exceed $5,000.
All four girls were released to their parents. The case will be forwarded to the Johnson Youth Center for consideration of charging the juveniles with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, a Class C Felony.
