On 02/11/2012, at approximately 1:03 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision located near the 3200 block of the Douglas Highway. Capital City Fire Rescue personnel and JPD police officers responded.
The investigation revealed that Mellissa DERR was driving a full sized truck inbound on the Douglas Highway. DERR drove into the opposite lane of travel and struck another vehicle, operated by a 65 year old Juneau female resident. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.
The 65 year old driver was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries. She was later released from the hospital.
One lane of the Douglas Highway was shut down for approximately one hour.
DERR was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. DERR was transported to JPD, and then to BRH. She was ultimately taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, and Assault in the 3rd Degree, a Class C Felony. DERR was held on no bail.
The investigation continues.
