INFORMATION RELEASE

on 12/29/2011 at 7:44pm, the Juneau Police Department received a call that 27 year old Juneau resident, Ryan HAMLEY was intoxicated and shooting a handgun inside an apartment on the 4000 block of Delta Drive.

When police arrived they found HAMLEY inside the residence with a 48 year old Juneau woman and 26 year old Juneau man. A 3 year old child and two 20 year old Juneau women had run out of the apartment prior to officers arriving and were at a neighbor?s residence. While officers were approaching the apartment they saw a person they believed to be HAMLEY come out of the apartment. When he saw police he went back inside and closed the door. Police were unable to make further contact with HAMLEY or anyone else in the apartment.

At approximately 8:30pm, the SWAT team arrived at the scene and began trying to talk to HAMLEY or one of the other people inside the apartment. They received no response.

At about 10:00pm, the Crisis Negotiation team arrived on scene and began trying to talk to HAMLEY or one of the other people inside the apartment. At around 3:30am the 48 year old woman began talking to negotiators. She was very cooperative and was able to find the gun. She also reported that HAMLEY and the 26 year old man were asleep. At about 6:00am officers entered the residence and arrested HAMLEY. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged at Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail on two (2) counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 2nd degree, a class B felony, and three (3) counts of Assault in the 3rd degree, a class C felony.

The 48 year old woman and the 26 year old man reported that they were never held in the apartment against their will.

The investigation is ongoing.
