Detectives have concluded their investigation into this case and it was determined that SMITH died of drowning after an accidental fall down the cliff.

Update 11/8/11 at 10:30am
Further investigation revealed that police had been called to the area in response to a disturbance involving an 18 year old female and 22 year old Juneau resident Evan SMITH. When police arrived at the residence the woman and SMITH jumped out a second story window in an effort to avoid speaking to police. They ran into a steep, dark, wooded area above Kowee creek and fell over the cliff.
No foul play is suspected at this time. Officers are continuing the investigation.

On 11-6-11, at about 2:13AM the Juneau Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance on Foster Avenue. While investigating the disturbance, officers heard a woman yelling for help in the area of Kowee Creek near North Douglas Highway. Officers located an 18 year old female who had fallen down an approximately 80 foot high cliff into Kowee Creek. Capital City Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and removed the woman from Kowee Creek. The woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the fall. The body of a 22 year old man was found nearby. The name of the deceased male is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Investigation into the incident continues.
