Summary:
On 11-3-11, at about 3:12pm, the Juneau Police Department received a report that a 25 ton crane had tipped over in the 3000 block of North Douglas Highway injuring and trapping the crane?s operator. Police, Capital City Fire & Rescue, and the United States Coast Guard responded to the scene. Due to concerns regarding the stability of the scene, the operator, who is presumed to be deceased, could not be extracted. Investigation into the incident and recovery efforts are ongoing.
UPDATE: On 11-04-2011 at 2:15pm, the body of the deceased man was extricated from the crane. He is identified as 75 year-old Juneau resident Boyd Cody. Next of kin have been notified and the body has been sent to the State Crime Lab in Anchorage for an autopsy.
