Case or Incident: #110910-007
On 9-10-11, at about 1:00pm, The Juneau Police Department received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision on Egan Drive near Sunny Point. Police and Capital City Fire and Rescue responded.
Investigation determined that a vehicle traveling outbound on Egan Drive in the right lane struck and killed a bald eagle causing it to be thrown into the left lane. The driver of a 2001 Chevrolet van braked to avoid the eagle and was struck from behind by a 1989 Ford Ranger driven by 67 year old Juneau resident, Michael SHEEHAN.
The Chevrolet van sustained an estimated $5000 damage and the Ford was totaled. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Both drivers were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by Capital City Fire and Rescue for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. SHEEHAN was later cited for failing to maintain a safe distance.
The left lane of Egan Drive outbound was closed for approximately 45 minutes as a result of the collision.
