INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Plastic Bottle Pressure Bombs
Date: 2011-08-30
From: Juneau Police Department
Case or Incident: #110825-010
Summary:

On August 25, 2011 at about 6:00 p.m., a resident on the 8600 block of Dudley Street called JPD to report finding the remnants of a plastic bottle pressure bomb near the roadway. The resident had heard an explosion about a week prior but was unable to identify the source. No damage was done.

The Juneau Police Dept. has received several calls of this nature and want to remind citizens that pressure bombs can cause serious injury and even death due to the unpredictable nature of the explosive time frame and blast pressure coupled with shrapnel. If you see a plastic water/soda bottle that appears to be a pressure bomb do not go near it and contact police. Possible indications are strips of metal foil in the bottle or apparent gas/cloudy buildup inside the bottle.

The Juneau Police Dept. investigates reports of destructive devices. Anyone with information regarding this or other incidents of this nature are encouraged to call the Juneau Police Dept. at 586-0600 or log onto juneaucrimeline.com.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
