INFORMATION RELEASE

On 08/28/11 at 0327 hours, the Juneau Police Department received a 911 call that a vehicle was on fire near the Douglas Harbor. About the same time, there was a report of a single vehicle collision with a utility pole at the corner of St Ann?s and Saviko Park Road.
Officers responded and investigated both reports. A witness told Officers a male in a brown van was seen leaving the area of the vehicle fire at a high rate of speed and without headlights illuminated. Officers attempted to stop the van, which tried to elude officers. The van eventually stopped in the parking lot of Channel View Apartments where the driver exited and ran from Officers.
Subsequently, the driver of the van was identified as 20-year-old local resident Keith HANSON. HANSON was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer, and Driving without a valid license. Bail was set at $10,000.
The investigation into the Arson and vehicle accident is ongoing.
