INFORMATION RELEASE

On July 12, 2011 and July 13, 2011 law enforcement officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Southeast Alaska Chiefs Against Drugs (SEACAD), and the Juneau Police Department arrested four Juneau residents on a variety of state and federal drug charges.

The investigation began when the federal agencies, ICE and DEA, intercepted packages of drugs being sent Juneau. The first two packages contained about two-thirds of a pound of cocaine each. Those packages were delivered on July 12, 2011 under the supervision of law enforcement to 21 year old twin brothers Jose and Roberto Carranza. The two men were arrested and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, a class B felony. A class B felony under state charges is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. The Carranzas were arraigned in district court yesterday and bail was set at $25,000 cash. Additional charges are pending.

The third package, which contained 3000 ecstasy pills and 3 ounces of cocaine, was delivered on July 13, 2011 under the supervision of law enforcement to 44 year old Kenneth Hausinger and 33 year old Darren Wigg. Hausinger and Wigg are both being held on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute ecstasy and conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Those charges are all C felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a million dollar fine, and three years of supervision after release.
