INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Burglary/Arson

Summary:

On 07/11/2011, at about 4:00 pm, the Juneau Police Deparment received a report from a resident who resides in an apartment on the 1900 block of Lemon Creek Road of what sounded to him like a person damaging property in an adjoining apartment next to his. The resident said the person causing the disturbance had exited the residence and was walking along a trail adjacent to the apartment building. He said the person, who was a male was very oddly dressed and had several items in his possession.

JPD Officers contacted a 25-year old male walking along the trail. He matched the description given by the original caller. The male suspect was very uncooperative and was placed into custody.

As JPD Officers were attemtping to interview the male suspect, they noticed smoke emitting from the upstairs apartment of a separate building also on the 1900 block of Lemon Creek Road. The particular apartment was found to belong to the male suspect.

Capital City Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned to the location and exginguished the fire. It was later determined that the fire was intentionally set. No residents in the affected apartment complex sustained any injuries from the fire.

The male suspect was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for a medical and mental evaulation. Criminal charges will be filed pending his release.

The burglary to the first apartment is being investigated by JPD. The arson to the second apartment is being jointly investigated by both JPD and CCFR Fire Marshal.
