On July 4, 2011 at about 5:05 pm, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a 2 vehicle accident on Glacier Highway at Egan drive access near Wal Mart. Injuries were reported to the occupants of one of the vehicles and Capital City Fire and Rescue as well as Juneau Police Officers responded to the area.
Investigation revealed that a 17 year old male Juneau resident was driving a 1991 Nissan outbound on Glacier Highway and was turning onto Egan access near Wal Mart. The 17 year old driver failed to yield to oncoming vehicles and struck a 1994 Oldsmobile driven by a 21 year old female Juneau resident. The 17 year old had 3 passengers in his vehicle and no one was injured. The driver of the Oldsmobile had one passenger and they reported minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Oldsmobile were evaluated by CCFR at the scene and released.
Both drivers exchanged information at the scene. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and were also towed from the scene. The 17 year old driver was cited for Failure to Yield While Turning Left.
