INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 5th Degree

Summary:

On 06/27/2011, at about 2:50 pm, two Juneau Police Department uniformed Community Services Officers were attempting to make contact with the occupant of a residence at 17-mile Glacier Highway reference a litter complaint. The male occupant, later identified as 58-year old, Steven STINER exited his residence holding a handgun in his hand and demanded that the two CSOs leave his property. He continued to approach the CSOs until they backed away and left the area.

At approxiamtely 3:30 pm, JPD Police Officers attempted to make contact with STINER at the same residence reference his brandishing the handgun at the CSOs. STINER exited the residence and approached the officers who were standing outside, on the driveway. As he continued to walk towards the officers, he allegedly held a handgun in his hand, concealed behind his back. He continued to approach in this manner until told to drop the weapon. He discarded the handgun and was placed under arrest for failing to immediately inform a police officer of a concealed firearm in his possession. (Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 5th Degree, class B Misdemeanor). He was lodged at Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
