Update: The victim in this case is 70 year old Juneau resident Manual Antonio Mendoza.

On 05-31-11 at about 2310 hours, JPD received a report of a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle in the 6500 block of Glacier Hwy. Officers arrived on scene within moments.
Investigation revealed a 70 year old male was crossing Glacier Hwy westbound outside of a crosswalk and was struck by a blue SUV that was travelling outbound on Glacier Hwy. The impact caused the pedestrian to fall backward and sustain non life threatening injuries. He was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital by a friend for evaluation.
According to witnesses, the suspect vehicle slowed after the collision and then accelerated rapidly away from the area. Officers are investigating several leads in this case and the investigation is ongoing. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Juneau Police Dept. at 586-0600.
