INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Burglary and vehicle theft

Summary:

On 04/29/2011, at approximately 4:59 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report that a business in the 2400 block of Shaune Drive had been hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred sometime during the night and the vehicle was no longer in the area.

Juneau police officers arrived and determined that the business had been burglarized. The investigation revealed that a vehicle had driven through the front doors of the business. The damage to the building was estimated at approximately $15,000. An undisclosed amount of beer was stolen from the business.

The front bumper of the vehicle that struck the front of the business was located in the area. The vehicle was owned by another business in the Lemon Creek area, and it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen. The vehicle was subsequently located abandoned on Northwood Drive.

The Juneau Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit received a tip that the suspect and the alcohol where in a residence in Switzer Village. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the trailer.

On 04/29/2011, at approximately 1:30 PM, JPD officers served the search warrant at the Switzer Village residence. The majority of the stolen alcohol was recovered from the trailer.

Michael RAE, a 54 year old Juneau resident, was arrested for Vehicle Theft in the 1st Degree a Class C Felony, Burglary in the 2nd Degree a Class C Felony, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree a Class C Felony, and Theft in the 3rd Degree a Class A Misdemeanor. RAE was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he was held on No Bail.
