Summary:

On Saturday, 04-16-11, at about 1517 hours, the Juneau Police Department received a phone call from a 20 year old Juneau woman. She stated she was near Glacier Hwy in the 6500 block walking with her child when a male unknown to her approached her and her 5 year old son. The male grabbed the hand of the 5 year old and continually tried to tug him away from the area of his mother, however, he eventually let go.

The child?s father was a short distance away, saw the events unfolding and intervened. The assailant, later identified as 46 year old Juneau resident Raphael FLORES, produced a knife and brandished it at the father in a threatening manner. The father backed away from FLORES. Another person that was with FLORES grabbed him and pulled him away from the family. FLORES left the area.

Officers soon located FLORES at a trailer in the 6500 block of Glacier Hwy where he was taken into custody. He was charged with Assault in the 3rd degree (Class C Felony) and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor) and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail.

Alcohol was a factor. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Juneau Police Dept at 586-0600.
