On 04/14/2011 about 0939 hours, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a vehicle accident that occurred about 4:15 pm on 04/13/2011.
The caller, an SJS Construction employee, stated he was driving down Mendenhall Loop Road in the area of the Trinity Drive overpass. He misjudged the height of his truck and trailer and hit the overpass causing damage to the structure. The State of Alaska Department of Transportation was notified and inspected the structure today. Because of the damage, the overpass pedestrian bridge has to be removed.
The removal of the structure is going to occur at 6:00 pm tonight. Mendenhall Loop Road from Nancy Street to Stephen Richards Memorial Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic until approximately 8:00 pm.
