INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Assault 3rd DWI
Date: 2011-03-27
From: Sgt Hatch
Case or Incident: #110327-002
Summary:

Summary:

On Sunday, 03-27-11 at about 0840 hours, JPD received a report of a single motor vehicle collision at the end of N. Douglas Hwy.

When officers arrived, a 1994 Honda Accord was found several feet off the roadway at the end of N. Douglas Hwy with substantial body and under carriage damage.

Several passengers were contacted and the investigation revealed the vehicle had been driven by 22 year old Juneau resident Thomas BELL. There were five other passengers in the vehicle, one of which sustained non-life threatening injuries. Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to evaluate the passengers but no transport was made to the hospital.

Based on evidence at the scene, it appeared the driver was travelling outbound on N. Douglas Hwy at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop when the road ended. The vehicle struck a snow bank and landed several feet in the woods.

BELL was ultimately arrested for DWI (A Misdemeanor), Assault in the third degree (C Felony) and Driving without a Valid Operators License (A Misdemeanor). BELL was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail.
