INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Assault 3
Date: 2011-02-27
From: Sergeant Chris Burke
Case or Incident: #110227-005
Summary:

On Sunday, February 27th about 4:41 p.m., the Juneau Police Department responded to 247 S. Franklin Street for a disturbance at the Glory Hole. The complainant requested police assistance as she asked a female patron to leave and she was refusing. Within minutes of the first call the complainant called again and stated the female patron pulled a knife on her and attempted to stab her.

When officers arrived, they contacted the complainant and several patrons inside of the Glory Hole. Investigation determined the female patron was being unruly and was asked to leave. The complainant asked a second time, when the 45-year-old Juneau resident Melinda WRIGHT, produced a knife and attempted to stab the complainant. The victim blocked the attempt with her arm and several male patrons tackled WRIGHT. WRIGHT was disarmed and left the area.

WRIGHT was located down the street a short distance from the Glory Hole and taken into custody without incident. Wright was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center for one count of Assault in the 3rd degree (C Felony) and held without bail.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
