On 01/30/2011, at approximately 5:10 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a two car motor vehicle collision on Egan Drive near Fred Meyer. Officers arrived on scene and Egan Drive traffic was shut down between the Fred Meyer access and McNugget. Egan Drive remained closed for approximately 25 minutes.
The investigation indicated that 55 year old Juneau resident Michael SYPHERD was driving on Egan Drive inbound and turning left onto the Fred Meyer access road. SYPHERD was driving a 1999 Toyota truck. SYPHERD failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle driven by 18 year old Juneau resident Zeeba SANCHEZ. SANCHEZ was driving a 1990 Volkswagen Golf.
SYPHERD was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. SPYHERD was cited for Failure to Yield.
Both vehicles are considered a total loss.
