Case or Incident: #110129-018
On 1/29/11 at about 8:54 p.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle collision on Egan Dr near the retaining wall.
Officers arrived on scene and found a red 2003 Pontiac Sunfire in the right lane of Egan Dr inbound. The vehicle had sustained extensive damage to the front end and rear passenger side.
Investigation revealed that a 31 year old female had been driving Egan Dr inbound while engaged in an argument with her boyfriend, 30 year old Juneau resident, Kenneth BURCHFIELD, who was sitting in the front passenger seat. During the argument, BURCHFIELD grabbed the steering wheel causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then collided with the retaining wall, crossed both lanes of traffic, and collided with the concrete barrier on the right side of the road before coming to rest in the right hand lane. The driver sustained minor injuries to her ribs and knee. She declined medical attention at the scene.
The right hand lane of Egan Dr inbound was closed for about one hour while Officers investigated the scene. The vehicle was totaled and privately towed.
BURCHFIELD fled the scene and was later contacted by Officers in the area of Channel Vista. BURCHFIELD was ultimately arrested for Assault DV 4th Degree. He was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center after being medically cleared at Bartlett Regional Hospital.
