INFORMATION RELEASE

On 12/7/24 at about 0415 hours, the Juneau Police Department (JPD) received a report from the 2500 block of Industrial Blvd of substantial damage to utility lines and poles caused by a Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) involving a dump truck.  The investigation revealed that 31-year-old Phillip Abeyta took a dump truck from the area without permission.  While driving, the truck became entangled with multiple overhead utility lines, causing extensive damage to the lines and utility poles.  The combined damage to the truck and utilities is estimated to be over $100,000.  Philip Abeyta was arrested for DUI, a Class A Misdemeanor, Third Degree Criminal Mischief, a Class C Felony, and First Degree Vehicle Theft, a Class C Felony.  He was transported to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and lodged without bail.

Utility crews are currently on scene working to restore utilities to the area and it is estimated that the work will take at least 8-10 hours.  Industrial Blvd is closed to traffic from Glacier Hwy to Bentwood Pl, and we ask that people stay out of the area to allow crews to work uninterrupted.   Access to the rest of Industrial Blvd is available at Glacier Hwy and Jensine St.
