INFORMATION RELEASE
Date: 2024-11-16
From: Deputy Chief Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #2024-04150038
On 04/15/2024, at about 5:35 P.M., JPD and CCFR responded to a room at a hotel in the 2200 block of Trout Street for a report of a 1-month-old infant that wasn't breathing. Upon arrival by first responders, CCFR transported the infant to BRH for continued medical treatment.
Inside the hotel room, JPD contacted an adult male, 44-year-old Juneau resident James White, who was the child's caregiver at the time, and three other female children between the ages of 2 and 12.
JPD later learned that the infant was pronounced deceased at BRH and that the infant had significant physical injuries to the head.
The body of the infant was flown to Anchorage for an autopsy, which showed the cause of death was due to blunt force injury of the head, and the manner of death was classified as a homicide.
Following the 7-month-long investigation, on 11/15/2024, JPD contacted James white at the jail and placed him under arrest for Murder in the 2nd degree, an unclassified felony. James White had been previously lodged at the jail for a domestic violence assault that occurred on 11/14/2024.
