On 07/06/2024, at about 11:07 A.M., the Juneau Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from an unidentified male saying there was a shooting at Fred Meyer in Juneau. The caller hung up but called back soon afterward, providing the alleged name of the person responsible for the shooting. JPD responded to Fred Meyer and everything was fine. Responding officers contacted staff who were unaware of any emergency at the store.
Officers located the caller at a residence on Tongass Blvd and identified him as a 22-year-old male Juneau resident. The threats were determined to be fictitious and there was never anyone in danger. The caller was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
