On June 1st at about 4:55 a.m. dispatch received a call reporting a man had been struck by a vehicle in the drive-through lane of a business on Postal Way.
The 58 year-old male caller was operating a white 2015 Chevy truck. He drove around a corner into the drive-through lane and did not see the man laying in the roadway immediately around the corner. When the caller stopped, the man sat up, was conscious and talking. It appeared that the cowling of the truck had rolled over the man.
JPD officers and Capital City Fire Rescue were dispatched to the incident. Upon arrival, the man was conscious and had sustained abrasions on his back. The man was transported by ambulance to Bartlett Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. The man, identified as 38 year-old Armando Sanchez, was later medevaced out of Juneau for medical treatment. On June 11th, JPD investigators were notified that Sanchez had died. Next of kin has been notified.
The investigation is continuing.
