How far can you walk this summer?

What community can you walk, run, or hike to by September 1 without ever leaving your community? The more miles you walk the more chances you have to win great prizes in local drawings and two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines! Walk Southeast. Fly Alaska!

Are you from a community outside of Juneau? You’re in the right place, go here for information on the community challenge and how to get registered!

When you reach these communities along your virtual trek, you can check in below to earn a bonus ticket for the local prize drawing. You will need to upload a photo of your Mileage Tracker, if applicable, plus a fun selfie from a recent walk, run or hike.

Ready to check in? Click on the community you have reached to get started.

Registration is simple and it’s absolutely FREE to participate! Register online and look for Walk Southeast under ‘Special Events.’

JNU – Registration CLOSED

Participants outside of Juneau need to register under the ‘Other Southeast Alaska Residents’ section with the applicable community. Please find more information below.

A fillable/printable PDF Mileage Tracker will be sent to all registered participants on April 29 or at the time of registration, if later. Print or download the tracker and mark off the miles you walk, run or hike between May 1 – September 1. You can check the boxes, fill out the log, or both!

Mileage Trackers, regardless of how far you made it, must be submitted by September 2 to be eligible for the prize drawings.

JNU – Submit your tracker
Other – Submit your tracker

New this year for Juneau participants is the My Virtual Mission (MVM) app for tracking your miles! You will be able to:

  • Sync your miles using one of the following fitness tracking apps: Adidas, UnderArmour, Runkeeper, Strava, Fitbit or Garmin. (Sorry! We tested Apple Health too, but it did not work correctly with our challenge.)
  • Manually enter miles, if you prefer
  • Receive notifications when reaching each community, bonus community, and Alaska Airlines checkpoint
  • Track your progress along the route to Ketchikan

Instructions for getting set up with MVM will be provided at the time of registration. You will need to:

  • Join the challenge
  • Create a MVM account
  • Download My Virtual Mission from your phones app library
  • Connect your fitness tracking app, if applicable

These steps can all be completed prior to May 1. Then, once the challenge is launched on May 1, simply use your fitness tracking app to track your walks, runs or hikes or enter them manually. The mileage will automatically be added to the Walk Southeast MVM challenge. You will not need to use the printable Mileage Tracker nor will you need to submit anything at the end of the challenge. MVM does that all for you!

Please note: Each participant needs their own device and must create an MVM account. For families, it is recommended that kids use the paper Mileage Tracker while parents use the app.

The more you walk the more chances you have to win in the local drawing. What community will you reach by September 1?

  • Auke Bay, 12 miles = 1 ticket
  • Gustuvas, 83 miles = 2 tickets
  • Skagway, 104 miles = 3 tickets
  • Petersburg, 163 miles = 5 tickets
  • Wrangell, 208 miles = 8 tickets
  • Ketchikan, 297 = 12 tickets

You could win a 1-night stay at the hard-to-get Amalga Cabin, cool swag from Trail Mix, Inc., great gear from Nugget Alaskan Outfitter or a gift certificate to Western Auto Marine. The drawing will take place on September 9 and winners will be notified by phone/email and announced on Facebook.

Community Challenge

Which community will walk the most miles this summer? Juneau, Petersburg, Wrangell and Ketchikan will all be aiming for the 2022 title. Since our communities are vastly different by population, the bragging rights – and a really cool new trophy from Alaska Airlines – will go to the community that has the highest average of miles walked per participant.

Win two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines!

The Alaska Airlines drawing for two round-trip tickets is open to all registered Walk Southeast participants from southeast Alaska. Each participant who walks a minimum of 150 miles will receive one (1) ticket. The drawing will take place on Friday, September 9. Walk Southeast. Fly Alaska!

To qualify for the Alaska Airlines drawing, you must:

  1. Live in Southeast Alaska
  2. Be registered for Walk Southeast
  3. Walk a minimum of 150 miles between May 1 – September 1, 2022
  4. Submit a Mileage Tracker by September 2 (Juneau participants using MVM do not need to submit a tracker)
