Kirsten Shelton's Quilled, Close Encounters in the Temperate Rainforest February 4th - 26th

Kirsten Shelton | Quilled: Close Encounters in the Temperate Rainforest

February's solo artist, Kirsten Shelton, illustrates the natural world through a detailed lens, finding interest in the textures, and seemingly infinite subtleties, that surround us. In this exhibit, Kirsten’s work draws attention to temperate rainforest life. Through pen and ink, Kirsten details the flora under our feet, the matrix of moss and tree limbs above our heads, animal characters who see us (and we sometimes glimpse as well), and other subtleties in our local landscape.

Born and raised in Juneau, Kirsten studied and practiced drawing, painting, and other forms of creativity throughout her school years in Juneau and she continued to study art at Amherst College in Massachusetts. After attending graduate school at Duke University, Kirsten lived out of state for fifteen years, returning to Juneau each summer with her daughters. Kirsten now resides permanently in Juneau where she is inspired by the wonder with which two daughters explore their home's trails, forests, and beaches. Kirsten intends to incorporate many of her illustrations into books for her daughters.

Quilled: Close Encounters in the Temperate Rainforest is on display at the City Museum from February 4th through the 26th.

Opening Reception:  February 4th | 4:30 to 7:00pm
