Systems Analyst

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK IN OUR DEPARTMENT

Information Technologies is a service and support department of the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). We are dedicated to serving and maintaining the technology needs to all members of CBJ and strive to provide all an excellent technical environment in which to function.  We are a close, good natured and dedicated group. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position typically works an 8.0 hour day (Monday through Friday). Your start and finish times will be determined on start date but will be between 7:30am – 8:30am and your finish time will match accordingly between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Your office is located in downtown Juneau in City Hall.

Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

This position is expected to complete advanced professional technical challenges for servers and systems city-wide. You will design, analyze, test, and implement new server infrastructure hardware, configuration, software, and services. Under general direction, you will be responsible for the servers and systems that our services rely on across the organization. This will mean resolving complex issues, developing technical specifications, leading projects, managing backups, antivirus, patching, and other administrative tasks. This position will work closely with the Network, Programmer, and Support teams to ensure a cohesive system infrastructure. Based on organizational need you will manage the integration of new technologies and assess the performance of infrastructure.  Working with the Operations Manager to ensure data center security and needs as well as performing all maintenance activities.

This position will also design, implement, and manage our backup system in accordance to best practices and our disaster recovery policy.  You will also oversee periodic vulnerability assessment and advise on necessary safeguards.

Minimum Qualifications

DO I HAVE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB – OUR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:         Two (2) years of experience in information systems maintenance or support which included the maintenance of data center systems.

Substitutions:   

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science or related field will substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Graduate study in Computer Science or related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience on the basis of: 2 sem/3 qtr graduate credit hours = 1 month.

Other:              Some positions may require a valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

APSIN

Please be aware – this position works directly with CBJ systems that may include assistance with a department’s Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).  This requires the incumbent to submit to a pre-employment fingerprint based criminal history background check.  Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with adult criminal convictions will not move forward in the recruitment and selection process. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance. Final offer of employment is contingent on obtaining DPS security clearance.
