|CATALOG ENTRY||Laurie R. King|
I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan, but up to now, I've been a purist; Holmes stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle only, no spin-offs or homages or Guy Ritchie-directed films. However, I tried The Beekeeper's Apprentice, by Laurie R. King, after a co-worker recommended it to me, and have since become hooked on the series. These well-written, thoughtful mysteries, set in early 20th century England, feature the brave and intelligent Mary Russell, and a mostly true-to-Doyle (except for one major detail) Holmes, as well as other familiar characters, such as Watson, Mrs. Hudson and Inspector Lestrade. This series opener tells the story of how Russell and Holmes meet, and solve their first case together. If you like mysteries, strong heroines, and Sherlock Holmes, give Laurie R. King's Mary Russell stories a try.
